Get to know your warehouse store. There can be a big discount on discontinued items. At Sam's Club if it has a C on the price tag it has been discontinued or if the price ends in a penny it has been marked down.
There are tips for Costco and BJ's as well. At Costco look for an asterisk for discontinued items and prices ending in 97 cents for markdowns.
