Do Your Dirty Clothes End Up On The Floor? Does This Drive Your Parent Crazy? Try these Solutions

What's Up?

Do you hate putting your dirty clothes into a hamper, or maybe they just somehow never make it into the hamper, but aim right for the floor, closet, bed, etc..  Make a cool clothes hamper and maybe, just maybe, more of your clothes might make it into the hamper.

Idea

Create a clothes hamper to fit your personality and room decor.  It will be more fun to put your clothes in, and help you with this chore.  See a list of ideas below.

How Does It Help?

Hopefully it will mean less nagging or arguing between you and your parent.  If you are required to keep your room semi-neat, this tip could help you be more successful.

Environmentally Friendly Washing Tips

  • Keep your washing machine clean inside.  A clean machine washes more efficiently.  To clean, run a cycle through with a gallon of white vinegar.
  • Wash your clothes in warm or cold water to save energy.
  • Choose your laundry detergents carefully.  It is recommended to stay away from phosphates, ammonia, and petroleum based products as these can be harmful to your family and the environment.

Parent(s)

Children when they are toddlers are ready to handle simple tasks. A simple task might be putting your dirty clothes into a hamper. It might take them time to master the task, but it can help them feel like they are part of the family where everyone contributes to the whole.  They can begin to understand how they contribute to the entire process of making a household run.

As children grow older, clothes still do not always make it into a hamper.  Kids like messy rooms.  If the task is more fun, maybe, more clothes will make it into the hamper.

Clothes Hamper Ideas

Everyone has different interests.  Pick your favorite thing and make a hamper that reflects you.

Younger Child's Room

Basic Hamper

Obtain a container.  Decorate it with stickers, ribbons, buttons, decals.  For example, a princess hamper.  Buy a colored trash can (pink, light blue, or yellow).  Adhere tulle, to the sides.  Then decorate it with ribbons, or princess stickers.

Dog Hamper

Obtain a brown container.  Using brown or black felt, cut out ears, eyes, whiskers.  Use a pom-pom ball for the nose base.  Adhere ears, eyes, nose, and whiskers.  For the whites of the eyes, you can use felt or buttons.

Sports Enthusiast

Basketball

Put a basketball hoop on the wall above the clothes basket.  As the clothes get dirty, shoot them through the hoop.

Soccer

Place a laundry basket sideways on the floor so that it resembles a goal.  Kick your clothes in every night.

Football

Put your favorite teams logo on.  Using an old cardboard box, cut out the field goal uprights.  Adhere them to the container.  Kick your clothes through for extra points.
