Turn Aluminum Cans Into A Video Game

What's Up?

In many states you can receive money for recycling aluminum cans, plastic bottles, paper, and other items.  Instead of throwing them away or putting them out to the curb, take charge and turn them into cash.

Idea

Decide on what you would like to set as a monetary goal; for example, a video game.  Utilizing the recycling information (link), determine how much recyclable material you will need to collect.  Then go for it.

How Does It Help?

Recycling materials helps reduce:

• Amount of natural resources required for new products (timber, minerals,)
• Amount of garbage in our landfills and trash incinerated
• Amount of pollution that comes from incinerating and manufacturing all new products

Recycling is the sorting, collecting, and processing of used materials (which would of otherwise been trash) to make new products.

Ideas on How To Collect More Recyclables

If you do not have that many recyclables at your home, here are some suggestions on how to obtain more:

Neighbors

Ask your neighbors if you can collect their recyclables from their curbside buckets or from their houses.

Parks

Go clean up a local park after an event or sports practice.  You are not only beautifying a public area, you are also making money.

Roads

Pick up trash along the side of a road.

Coffee Shops/ Convenience Stores

Many of these stores are willing to let you have their recyclables if you pick them up.  Talk to them or have your parent talk to them.
